fusée
is a major three-stage French
course from Hodder & Stoughton, aimed at Key Stage 3 first language students
of French. It meets in full the latest National Curriculum and QCA requirements.
fusée
takes a straightforward approach, using topics that aim to motivate both boys
and girls alike. The content matter is centred on the need to communicate, but
thoroughly integrates all necessary grammar - which is clearly taught throughout.
Each unit begins with receptive activities and moves via semi-productive tasks
to fully productive and open-ended activities that practise the grammar and
topic material taught.
The material covers the
full ability range with extension material that differentiates to accommodate
both abler and weaker learners. Target language rubrics and tasks are used throughout,
but with English translations also provided where appropriate (and for all of
the first half of Book 1). The result? A course that will motivate your students,
and which makes language-learning simple and rewarding.
What makes
fusée
different?
- Great material:
the course aims to motivate even students who are reluctant language learners.
Items have been selected on the basis that they are interesting to all readers
on their own merit, rather than only students who already have an interest
in learning French.
- Up to date: fusée
meets the latest National Curriculum requirements in full. Each stage is also
fully in line with QCA's Scheme of Work for French at Key Stage 3.
- Grammar:
grammar is presented and practised in context in the Student's Book, and further
practised in the copymasters. Grammar boxes are provided within each unit
so students can understand exactly what they are doing.
- Independent learning:
symbols indicate suitable tasks for independent learning and homework in the
Teacher's Book. Further opportunities are also provided by the copymasters.
- Differentiation:
this is provided via core material that is accessible to all, plus open-ended
activities which differentiate by outcome, and supplementary material which
differentiates by task, to be found for example in the En
Plus extension section in the Student's Book, or in the Photocopy
Masters.
- Raising standards:
language awareness and "transferable skill" tips expand students' horizons
and help build their confidence. Students are encouraged to express emotions
and opinions from the start, enabling them to use a foreign language in real-life
situations beyond the classroom. Extended reading activities in every unit
encourage reading for pleasure.
- Revision: all
the material is revised on a systematic basis. Photocopiable assessment copymasters
cover all the necessary assessment in full.
- Internet links:
recommended websites to practise language from the unit in an authentic context
while simultaneously developing ICT skills, with accompanying website activities
in copymasters and online.
- Support:
the Teacher's Book provides guidance for both NQTs and more experienced teachers.
Mapping to the new National Curriculum requirements and the QCA schemes of
work is provided in full. Cover lessons or independent study are catered for
- down to the English announcements on the cassettes!
- Value: the course
that will fit every budget! No unnecessary elements - just clear, concise
materials to give your students the best foundation in French.
